Textbook: There is no required textbook for this course. The instructor will make course notes on selected topics available. The course notes will be supplemented by papers from conferences and journals.
Mid-term dates:
  • Mid-term test 1: March 3, 2009 (Tuesday) during the normal class time. Material covered through February 25, 2009 (with the exception of Lecture 7 by Prof. Hu on February 10, Tuesday), and the associated readings are included for this test. This test is open-book open-notes. Bring a calculator to the test.
  • Mid-term test 2: April 14, 2009 (Tuesday) during the normal class time. Material covered through April 6, 2009, and the associated readings are included for this test (with the exception of Lecture 7 by Prof. Hu on February 10, Tuesday), This test is open-book open-notes. Bring a calculator to the test. While an attempt will be made to relate the questions to material not included for test 1, note that the material included for test 1 may also be necessary in answering test 2 questions.
Final examination:
Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2009 (duration 2 hours 30 minutes) in room 241 Everitt Lab. The final examination will be comprehensive (all material covered in the course and associated required readings included, with the exception of Lecture 7 by Prof. Hu on February 10, Tuesday), The final examination will be open-book open-notes. Bring a calculator to the final examination. The above final exam schedule is based on the UIUC non-combined final examination schedule for Spring 2009.
