Project for students registered for 4 hours
Only graduate students may register this class for 4 hours.
Students registered for 4 hours
will need to perform a project that is worth 25% of their final grade.
The project will primarily consist of two components:
1. A survey, and
2. A short research project.
Ideally, the research project will be related to the survey you perform.
The project may be analytical, simulation-based, or
experimental.
Project guidelines
-
Identify a survey topic by February 8, 2009, after
consulting with the instructor.
-
Complete the survey by March 5, 2009,
and submit a write-up based on the survey (4 pages, not counting
the references, in 12 point font, single spaced). The survey
should be based on at least 8 papers chosen in consultation with
the instructor.
-
By March 15, 2009, identify a research problem
after consulting with the instructor,
and submit a write-up (1 page) describing the
problem, motivation behind the problem,
and an outline of planned work.
- By April 5, suggest a solution.
Please meet the instructor at least once every two weeks in March and April
to provide an update on your progress.
-
By April 30, 2009, complete the work on the project,
and submit a report describing your work.
The students may be asked to make a short
presentation based on their work.
The final report format should be similar to a typical paper,
containing introduction, background and related work,
problem description, your solution,
results, and a discussion of the results, and a list of references. There is no specific length
requirement for the final report. Please submit a printout of
the report to Nitin Vaidya by April 30, 2009.
